Team Members

National Advisory Board and Committees for the Institute

The Training Institute on Strangulation Prevention is supported by a National Advisory Board and multiple committees focused on key strangulation-related issues. The Board also develops a five-year strategic plan for the Institute.

  • National Advisory Board

    Our National Advisory Board includes field-leading experts, physicians, nurses, law enforcement officers, prosecutors, advocates, researchers, and trainers. The National Advisory Board developed a 5-year plan for the Institute, submitted to the Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women. You can read the report here.

  • Research Committee

    Our Research Committee is led by Dr. Jackie Campbell. Her team focuses on conducting in-depth research on strangulation and its effects; publishing new, cutting-edge information; and promoting crucial research related to strangulation assaults to increase awareness and understanding.

  • Medical Committee

    Medical Committee

    Our Medical Committee is led by Dr. William Smock and Dr. William Green and includes physicians, nurse practitioners, and forensic nurses. The Medical Committee focuses on pediatrics and pediatric strangulation, pregnancy, case study collection, maintaining and updating our strangulation bibliography, and much more.

  • Legal Committee

    Legal Committee

    Our Legal Committee is led by Riverside County Assistant District Attorney Jerry Fineman and Lt. Dan Rincon of the Scottsdale, Arizona Police Department and includes police officers, prosecutors, defense attorneys, and judges. The Legal Committee monitors new and existing laws, works on improving law enforcement protocols and policies, and produces regular roll call videos.

  • Advocacy Committee

    Advocacy Committee

    Our Advocacy Committee is led by Michelle Morgan from One Safe Place Family Justice Center of Tarrant County, Texas and includes domestic violence survivor advocates, and other family violence professionals. The Advocacy Committee concentrates on conducting survivor focus groups, improving trauma-informed advocacy and outreach processes, and assists existing programs with evidence-based approaches to the needs of survivors and victims.
