The Power of WE

We are grateful to our affiliates at Women & Children First in Arkansas for sharing how our trauma-informed approaches and HOPE science skills create an environment that is optimal for growth.
At Camp HOPE America, one of our core beliefs is in the power of celebrating the accomplishments of others and recognizing our own positive character traits. The transformational power of hope is clear during overnight summer camp where youth create connections with their peers and find confidence within themselves through overcoming challenges in a safe and supportive environment.
During the summer of 2023, during our High Adventure program for youth ages 12-17, there was one camper who stood out. He was very outgoing and brave enough to try any activity though he sometimes struggled to connect with his peers. As modeled by Hope Counselors, our near peer mentors ages 18-24, and Hope Mentors, experienced adults ages 25+, he began to see how kind words of support and encouragement brought nervous campers closer to accomplishing their goals.
Throughout the week, he used his leadership skills and bold personality to offer intentional direction and support, acting as a leader to Classic campers, ages 7-11, and his High Adventure peers. To commend his transformation, he received the Character Trait Award for Willing, outlining his willingness to face challenges and bring hope to others.
